A Magical Day of Science with Dr. Andrew Szydlo

Our Year 7 and 8 students were treated to an extraordinary day of science, courtesy of renowned British chemist and educator, Dr. Andrew Szydlo. His dynamic and engaging science demonstration, As If By Magic, left the entire audience in awe. Known for his unique ability to make science both entertaining and educational, Dr. Szydlo captivated the students with a series of jaw-dropping experiments that covered key topics from the curriculum in a way that few will forget.

The hall was buzzing with excitement as Dr. Szydlo showcased his mastery over fire, chemical reactions, and surprising scientific phenomena. Each demonstration was not just about the spectacle but grounded in solid scientific principles, giving students a chance to see classroom theory come to life before their very eyes. From fiery explosions to mind-bending reactions, there wasn’t a dull moment in sight.

Many students left the session having learned something entirely new, not only about the wonders of science but also about how these seemingly magical events are rooted in everyday chemistry. For many, the most exciting part was the hands-on aspect—watching reactions happen in real time and feeling the energy in the room as theories turned into reality.

Dr. Szydlo’s visit provided a brilliant way to supplement the science curriculum. His ability to transform complex scientific ideas into engaging and accessible lessons is a testament to his expertise as both a scientist and a teacher. The session inspired many young minds, encouraging students to ask more questions, think critically, and explore the endless possibilities within the world of science.

As one Year 7 student put it, “It was amazing! I never thought science could be this fun. I want to learn more about what we saw today.” Another added, “The experiments made me curious about things I hadn’t thought about before.”

Bringing someone like Dr. Szydlo into our school is an excellent way to spark curiosity and enthusiasm for STEM subjects, and his demonstrations have no doubt left a lasting impression. We look forward to seeing how this experience will inspire our students in their studies and future scientific pursuits.

Without a doubt, Dr. Szydlo is a true catalyst for curiosity and learning, showing our students that science is not just a subject to be studied but an exciting world to be explored!
