Governance

Statutory and financial information

As a multi academy trust, we are committed to openness, strong governance and robust financial stewardship. This page brings together the key statutory documents that underpin how the Mulberry Schools Trust operates.

Here you will find our annual accounts, Articles of Association, Funding Agreement, Memorandum of Understanding, governance arrangements and register of interests.

Together, these documents set out the legal and financial framework within which we work and the principles that guide our decision-making.

Our governance structure is supported by a series of committees that oversee different aspects of the Trust’s work: Finance, Standards and Audit and Risk. Each committee plays a crucial role in providing scrutiny, ensuring accountability and supporting high-quality education across all our schools.

The conduct of Trust business is shaped by clear protocols that outline how decisions are made, how responsibilities are delegated and how meetings are managed. These procedures ensure our work is transparent, compliant and aligned with the Trust’s values, enabling Trustees, senior leaders and local governing bodies to operate effectively and collaboratively.

At the heart of the Trust’s governing body code of practice of all schools in the Mulberry Schools Trust are the Nolan Seven Principles of Public Life:

  1. Selflessness
  2. Integrity
  3. Objectivity
  4. Accountability
  5. Openness
  6. Honesty
  7. Leadership

In addition to commitment and adherence to these principles, it is expected that trustees of the Board or governors at all schools in the Mulberry Schools Trust should embody:

  • Unwavering commitment to the vision for young people in the schools;
  • Conscientious application to the tasks required to be done to ensure that all of the schools’ systems and structures are working for the benefit of the students;
  • Courage and determination to achieve Mulberry Schools Trust’s strategic aims.

The Trust’s Company Members provide oversight of our governance arrangements, but they do not play an active role in the day-to-day operations of the Mulberry Schools Trust. Their responsibilities include ensuring the charitable purpose of the Trust is upheld and supporting strong, effective governance.

The Mulberry Schools Trust comprises a total of five Company Members; two of whom are founding Company Members. They meet once a year for the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Some Company Members are either on the Trust Board or the Local Governing Body of the founding school, Mulberry School for Girls and attend relevant Board and Local Governing Body meetings, as well as visiting schools within the Trust.
