Career Readiness at Mulberry UTC: Mock Interviews and Entrepreneurial Experience with EY Foundation

At Mulberry UTC, we are committed to supporting students in developing the skills and confidence they need for life beyond the classroom. As part of our focus on career readiness and personal development, our Year 10 and Year 12 students recently took part in a valuable Mock Interview Skills Day, supported by the EY Foundation. The event gave students the opportunity to practise key employability skills such as making strong first impressions, posture and body language awareness, clear and confident communication, and structuring high-quality answers to interview questions. With guidance from experienced professionals, learners received constructive feedback that will help them approach future interviews with confidence.

Students also visited the EY offices for an engaging and inspiring careers-focused trip. During the visit, learners explored a variety of potential career paths within the business and professional services sector. They also participated in an entrepreneurial activity, where students worked in teams to create, market, and sell their own products with the aim of making a profit. This hands-on challenge helped students develop critical skills in teamwork, problem-solving, financial planning, and creative thinking.

These opportunities are an important part of the wider personal development curriculum at Mulberry UTC. Through real-world experiences like these, students are encouraged to think ambitiously about their futures and are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the workplace. Thank you to the EY Foundation for their ongoing support in helping our students prepare for the world of work!

CMS x Mulberry UTC: Creating Pathways into Film & TV for the Next Generation

We are excited to share the latest update on our partnership with Creative Media Skills Institute (CMS), which is helping to inspire and support the next generation of filmmakers! In February, we announced this exciting collaboration, which is a key part of our mission to support our students with practical, industry standard training in the world of film and television. Through this partnership, Mulberry UTC students are gaining hands-on experience and mentorship opportunities from professionals at CMS, which will equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to pursue careers in the creative industries.

Recently, CMS delivered a practical cinematography workshop at Mulberry UTC, where CMS tutor and cinematographer Jackie Teboul led a session on the impact of lighting on storytelling. Students were introduced to the technical aspects of lighting, including how light placement and contrast shape a scene’s mood and composition.

This is just one example of how our partnership with CMS is creating direct pathways from Sixth Form into the creative industries. We are proud to share that CMS has already welcomed its first Mulberry UTC student onto one of their programmes this year! Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
