The Secretary of State for Education speaks at the DfE conference

On Wednesday 19th March, we were delighted to host the Department for Education conference: Breaking Down the Barriers to Opportunity: Transforming Secondary School Attendance here at Mulberry Academy Shoreditch. Over 300 delegates came to our school to focus on a continued dialogue around school attendance.

In the morning session, Claire Burton, DfE London Regional Director, led a session on exemplary systems and strategies for improving attendance before delegates participated in a carousel of interesting workshops.

After lunch we were honoured to welcome the Secretary of State for Education, The Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP who delivered an inspirational keynote speech about the importance of working together to improve attendance for all children in secondary schools to ensure all children have access to the best education and life chances.

It was a great event and visitors were really positive and complimentary about our wonderful school.

A very big thank you to all involved with the day.

On Tuesday 10th August, Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd released a video on social media capturing the life-changing work experience opportunity attended by our amazing #MulberrySTEM Academy students in July.

The Year 12 students from Mulberry School for Girls and Mulberry Academy Shoreditch, completed a week long residential placement at the headquarters of Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd in Brackley.

The students were selected following a rigorous interview process and all had an interest in studying engineering at university. During the week they were immersed in working life, from 9.00am-5.00pm, in full team uniform. They worked across five different departments including aerodynamics, test and develop, as well as design.

They also had the opportunity to professionally network with employees and senior staff.

This was a phenomenal and once in a lifetime opportunity and we are very grateful to MGP for making this happen.

All the students had such an incredible time and we are so grateful for the beautiful memory.
