International Mother Tongue Language Day

International Mother Tongue Language Day

On Wednesday 26th February, staff and students celebrated the International Day of Mother Tongue Languages.

Thank you to our teachers who led workshops over lunch teaching students and staff about their mother tongue language.

  • Ms Mposa taught us that Lingala is spoken in the Democratic Republic of Congo together with French, Arabic, Swahili, Kikongo, Tshiluba and even more languages! Lingala is often called ‘La plus belle langue du monde’ meaning ‘the most beautiful language in the world’
  • Ms Hassan taught us how to greet people and introduce ourselves in Somali and she also taught us about some similarities between letters in Somali and Arabic. Mahadsanid means ‘Thank you’
  • Ms Fabian taught us the colours of the Romanian flag: albastru (blue), galben (yellow), and roşu (red)
  • Mr Kobler taught us how to introduce ourselves in German: Hallo! Ich heiße… Wie heißt du? = Hello! My name is … What’s your name?

For International Mother Language Day, a group of student leaders came together to create a video showcasing our love for our native languages. We highlighted the importance of connecting with our roots and taking pride in the diverse cultures we come from. We emphasised that these languages should not be forgotten but celebrated and embraced.

Students from various countries participated, speaking in their mother tongues and sharing their deep appreciation for their languages. It was an enjoyable and meaningful experience that brought us closer through our shared love of language and culture. Diana Lita Yr13

On Tuesday 10th August, Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd released a video on social media capturing the life-changing work experience opportunity attended by our amazing #MulberrySTEM Academy students in July.

The Year 12 students from Mulberry School for Girls and Mulberry Academy Shoreditch, completed a week long residential placement at the headquarters of Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd in Brackley.

The students were selected following a rigorous interview process and all had an interest in studying engineering at university. During the week they were immersed in working life, from 9.00am-5.00pm, in full team uniform. They worked across five different departments including aerodynamics, test and develop, as well as design.

They also had the opportunity to professionally network with employees and senior staff.

This was a phenomenal and once in a lifetime opportunity and we are very grateful to MGP for making this happen.

All the students had such an incredible time and we are so grateful for the beautiful memory.
