Mulberry and Bigland Green Centre (MBGC)

Mulberry and Bigland Green Centre (MBGC)

The MBGC is a purpose built community facility run in partnership between Mulberry School for Girls and Bigland Green Primary School, under the leadership of the Richard Street Education Trust.

Opened by HRH the Duchess of Cornwall in 2013, the centre includes six classrooms, used for adult learning, a Community Hall space for larger events, and a professional theatre space, as well as incorporating the Wapping & Bigland Children’s Centre.

MBGC is used for a wide variety of activities by the community, from a range of adult education classes to one-off events, celebrations and projects for the community. In our beautiful theatre space we regularly present high-quality theatre productions, as well as talks, lectures and conferences. Our spaces are also regularly hired out by a range of local partners and organisations.

Community and Family Learning

Community and Family Learning

The rich and tightly knit local community of the Mulberry Schools Trust is one of our greatest strengths and it is, in turn, a central part of our ethos to support this community. Mulberry provides educational opportunities not only for our pupils but their whole families.

In partnership with our feeder primary schools, we offer a pioneering programme of community and family learning. We offer up to 12 classes at any one time, covering everything from English as a second language or computing skills, through to bag decorating and fruit carving. We also provide help, support, and training for parents who are looking to move into employment. Most of these classes are held in our specialist building, the Mulberry and Bigland Green Centre, which is adjacent to the school. We also run a series of trips for learners on these courses, both with and without their daughters. Recent trips have included visits to the Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace, and outings to the theatre and opera.

Parent Forums

Parent Forums

We believe that children achieve their best when parents and teachers work together in partnership to support learning. At Mulberry we are committed to working with parents and the local community.

Feedback is one of the most powerful influences on learning and achievement. We apply this philosophy not only in our daily teaching and learning but also in our relationships with parents and other stakeholders.

We are constantly seeking parent feedback in order to help us know what we are doing well and where we can make improvements. To achieve this, parent forums are held regularly to discuss key themes that have been identified as areas that would benefit from a focus in our schools. We also provide many ways for parents to meet, build social networks, and engage with the life of the Mulberry Schools Trust.
