Two of the Mulberry Schools Trust’s East Sussex primary schools have been featured in recent local press coverage highlighting the positive impact of the LitUp reading programme in Hastings and St Leonards.
Mulberry Baird Primary and Mulberry Silverdale Primary were both included in an article by The Argus exploring the early success of the initiative, which has been developed by the National Literacy Trust in partnership with Bloomsbury Publishing.
The LitUp programme was created to help improve literacy levels and encourage reading for pleasure among primary-aged children across the local area. Through author visits, family reading activities, gifted books and support for schools, the programme aims to build children’s confidence, enthusiasm and engagement with reading.
The article highlights the encouraging early signs emerging from the programme, with schools already seeing positive impacts on children’s enjoyment of reading and wider literacy development.
At the Mulberry Schools Trust, we believe reading plays a vital role in unlocking opportunity, imagination and lifelong learning. It is therefore wonderful to see students and schools across our East Sussex community benefiting from this important initiative.
The Trust is also pleased to see the collaborative work taking place between schools, literacy organisations and publishing partners receiving recognition in the local press.
